IOLTA is an interest-bearing account that an attorney or law firm maintains for combined client funds that are nominal in amount or held for a short term. All interest earned on the IOLTA is remitted directly to the Georgia Bar Foundation.

IOLTA accounts generate interest for the public good. Bank fees are paid from the interest earned on pooled IOLTA accounts. The remainder of the funds generated by IOLTA accounts is earmarked for access to justice and are distributed through a local grant process to not-for-profit organizations through the state. IOLTA funds support legal services for the poor, improve administration of justice, promote professionalism in law practice in order to best serve the public, and aid children involved in the justice system.
