Digital Wallets

Oconee State Bank VISA® Debit Cards are now compatible with Apple Pay®, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay digital wallets! Add your eligible debit card, then shop in-store, in-app, or online with your mobile device. You'll get the same great benefits that come with your card, plus the convenience of a digital wallet.

How It Works

Digital Wallets are made possible by a technology called Near Field Communication. NFC allows two devices—like your mobile phone and a payments terminal—to talk to each other when they’re close together. These transactions are known as Contactless Payments.

For a Contactless Payment to be successful, you must hold your phone two inches or less from the payment terminal.

Why You Should Try It

Speed is one of the coolest parts of NFC payments. These payments take a fraction of the time of traditional magstripe and chip card transactions—and are leagues faster than cash or checks.

What About Security

Is NFC secure? YES! NFC mobile payments are dynamically encrypted, making them one of the most secure ways to pay.

Apple Pay®, Android Pay™, and Samsung Pay use a technology called Tokenization to encrypt and safeguard bank details.

Here’s how it works: After you take a picture of your debit card and load it into your mobile device, the Digital Wallet sends the details to your card’s issuing bank or network (that's us!). The banks and networks then replace your bank details with a series of randomly generated numbers (the token). That random number is sent back to the Digital Wallet, which then programs it into your mobile device. This means that the account details on your phone can’t be cloned into anything valuable to fraudsters.

In addition, Apple Pay® is protected by Touch ID, Apple’s fingerprint technology. To initiate an Apple Pay® transaction, you have to unlock your phone via your fingerprint. So even if your device is stolen, no one would be able to obtain your data. This is the reason why Apple Pay® only works on the most recent iPhone models, which come equipped with Touch ID. You must have a pass code or finger print entry on your device for security.
